How about giving us a brief description of your climb upward?

After graduating from Specs Howard I moved to Rogers City, MI up north and worked at WMLQ.  While there, I commuted to Gaylord on the weekends and worked at "The Peak." 

After leaving those two, I went straight to WDBI 107.3 in Tawas.  That got sold, and I ended up working as a PD of an SMN affiliate in Ashtabula, OH.  They got a new GM, so I came back to Michigan. 

I worked at 94.1 in Lansing which changed twice while I was there (WIBM to WBHR to WXIK).

While in Lansing I commuted to Detroit to work weekends at WLTI, Lite FM 93.1.  They became 'DRQ and dumped everybody.

After leaving WXIK in Lansing I went to Saginaw where I worked as News Director on Oldies 96 WHNN with Johnny Burke.  While in Saginaw I commuted to Howell to work weekends at WHMI.

From there I moved to Ann Arbor.  I worked at WAAM when it was Whitehall broadcasting, then got hired in as News Director for the Ann Arbor Clear Channel Cluster.  When Clear Channel lost the GM & PD, I went over to WAAM and became Production and Imaging Director/Operations Manager/webmaster. 

With all those duties, the GM still wasn't satisfied.  He made me traffic director. I didn't like being traffic director, so we parted ways.  I managed a movie theatre for a while, and now that he's gone, I'm back at WAAM.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I used to be a tableside magician in restaurants.

What is the #1 advice you could give to current radio students?

Get a Roth IRA, and save as much money as possible.  You never know when the gig will disappear, and you need to have some savings to carry you to the next station. Oh, and use your ears when you edit, don't just look at the wavefile.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Having a kind and decent son that loves me and being Ted Heusel's producer.  He is a wealth of knowledge about radio, and it is an honor and privilege to work with him each week.

How did you get to where you are now in this industry?

I got to where I am now by being willing to work cheap, and still give 110%.

Who has influenced your career the most?

My biggest influences professionally have been Tom Ryan of WOMC for his unending sense of humor, Greg Bowman of WWJ for his flawless news delivery, and Lucy Ann Lance of WAAM. No one can make a guest more comfortable during an interview.
