SCOTT FISHER
Director of Online Learning & Instructional Technology

What is your job title?
Director of Online Learning and Instructional Technology … basically, staff geek.
What is your past experience in the field?
Prior to Specs, I was working in the English Department of a small university in Seoul, Korea. I taught English, communication and presentation skills, writing, plus helped create and setup e-learning content for the Department.
Before that I worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon as an Asia analyst, served in Baghdad with the Department of Defense, and co-hosted a live morning radio show in South Korea.
Where did you attend school?
I graduated from U of M (Go blue!), and then got my MA overseas at a university in Seoul, Korea.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I wrote a book on my time and travels in Bush's "Axis of Evil". The book is called, ‘creatively’; Axis of Evil World Tour, An American's Travels in Iran, Iraq and North Korea. As far as I know, I’m the only American to spend time in all three countries in the past few years.
What do you watch when you turn on the TV?
Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, History Channel – I guess anything with the name ‘channel’ in it.
Who would you most like to interview?
Confucius, though at this point the interview would probably be a little one-sided, the man’s philosophy has probably affected more people over a greater period of time than anyone.
What do you consider your most important role at the school?
Being available to help people learn and use the online education system. Just stop by, call, or email, I'll be happy to help.
Where do you look for creative inspiration?
Coffee and a nap, though not necessarily in that order.
Favorite place?
Sitting atop a motorcycle in any country without stringent traffic laws.
One thing you'd like to learn?
Languages, I’d love to learn Arabic or Spanish. Anyone out there willing to teach me?
Pets?
Two younger brothers, … and several nephews …
Greatest accomplishment?
Putting myself through school, then finally paying off that last student loan.
